POISON WIND.

Film and Video, featured No Comments

Set against the Grand Canyon and indigenous landscape of the Desert Southwest, POISON WIND focuses on human costs of uranium mining, including the effects of radiation on the local population. It tells several personal stories all relating to the life and tragedy found in these rural mining areas. It focuses on lives being destroyed by the effects of radiation, the struggle to gain compensation and the prevention of any new mines being opened.

POISON WIND is a feature documentary investigating the health and environmental effects of uranium mining on the southwestern united states, especially on indigenous lands. Where most mines are located.  Directed and Produced by Jenny Pond, Produced by Activist Norman Patrick Brown, Edited by Keegan Ead.

Publicity about POISON WIND was kept close in the beginning.  Though we eventually released two short clips around the 4th Annual Southwest Native American Film Festival. Where they also premiered.

Though most of the film was shot by Carlos Chavez, I got to DP a section of reenactments within a mine recreation out in Gallup, New Mexico. That was tons-o-fun. Paul DeNigris is great to work alongside on set, as a guest director. Lots of energy and expertise. Jenny Pond pulled together the shoot in a really short amount of time.

After completion, POISON WIND really snowballed within the various communities. Especially the Native Amercan community, but it aslo gained a lot of attention in other parts of the world. Welcomed with open arms in places like Germany and Ireland.
